South African Road Trips

Pack the family into the car and take off on a road adventure this weekend. There is no shortage of spectacular scenery to be enjoyed throughout our grand country.
Top two road trips:

Chapman's Peak Drive in Cape Town
With roads up to 593m above sea level, this is one of the most scenic drives around. Overlooking Noordhoek and Hout Bay, this route is full of amazing sights that you’ll want to stop and take in along the way.
Several safety measures are now in place so you can drive through the 114 curves at slow speed for maximum viewing pleasure, or pull over and enjoy the views without a worry. Take in the stretch of valleys, steep cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean - you’ll feel energized by the natural surroundings as far as your eye can see. You might even catch some dolphins or whales playing in the ocean below.
For those seeking adventure, you can hike up Chapman's Peak for something more challenging.

Maloti Drakensberg Route

If you have more time to spare, take a drive through 13,000 square kilometres of the most awe-inspiring mountain country in Africa. Covering areas of the north-eastern border with Lesotho and large sections of the Drakensberg on the KwaZulu Natal side, the Maloti Drakensberg Route includes a national park and a World Heritage Site (uKhahlamba Drakensberg conservation area).
Great at any time of year (sun or snow), this route offers visitors so much more than a pretty outlook. Explore and bare witness to the natural beauty and diveristy of the mountan region, visit villiages and discover the culture and crafts of 26 different ethnic groups. You can even take a step back in time and view dinosaur trails or the San rock paintings traced back thousands of years.

All kinds of activities and adventure sports are also available along the route - horse trails, abseiling, birdwatching, mountain biking, hiking, fly-fishing and
pony trekking, to name a few.
