While popular stereotypes would have one believe that the continent of Africa is a hot, humid place in all nooks and corners, this assumption couldn't be further from the truth. One of the best places to explore the icy terrain of Tanzania is on the momentous peak of Kilimanjaro, where a number of large glaciers continue to wow hikers to this day.
Along hikes, trekkers can explore ice columns, towers and the well-named cathedrals of Kilimanjaro, as all routes to the summit provide hikers with great vistas of these icy giants.
The summit, however, provides some of the best vistas of Kilimanjaro's glaciers. When seen in the first rays of morning sunshine, the blue-white ice is ablaze in a sea of magnificent pinks and purples.
Visitors who have always dreamed of climbing the icy peaks will want to be sure and not dawdle on this epic journey. Current estimates believe that the snow-capped peaks and ridges of Kilimanjaro could be gone in as few as 20 years, so visitors must see these epic structures of nature before they disappear forever.
