Although Korogwe may be thought of as little more than a gateway to the Usambara Mountains, the town also offers access to many overlooked areas of Tanzania.
Although the town itself remains little more than a skeleton of its former self, with only the remains of its old train station and a series of dusty roads, its Motel White Parrot is a popular spot to unwind. Spacious rooms provide visitors with a comfortable place to get refreshed before the next leg of a journey, and large grassy campsites provide a nice respite from the hot and dusty roads. The large plastic animals, after viewing any of the country's Big Five, seem campy and fun.
For visitors just stopping by, the popular fruit juices available at White Parrot will provide a refreshing treat on the run.
The small town of Handeni - located just south of town - offers guests a sweet treat. Known for its beekeeping and consequent honey, Handeni is often overlooked for its charms. However, should any traveler have the unfortunate experience of being stung during their visit, the nearby hospital will provide suitable care.
