Sample Itinerary

DAY 1 : DEPART USA

EN ROUTE
Depart on your overnight flight.

DAY 2 : AMSTERDAM / NAIROBI

NORFOLK HOTEL
Transit the airport connecting with your day flight to Nairobi. Transfer to the historic Norfolk Hotel.

DAYS 3 : NAIROBI / AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

TORTILIS CAMP
Fly to Amboseli National Park, famous for its large elephant population and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Spend two nights in grand “Hemingway style” in a small, luxury tented camp. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 : AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

TORTILIS CAMP
Morning game drive with Kilimanjaro providing a superb backdrop for photos. Take a nature walk with Maasai Warriors, ending with sundowners on a hill facing the rooftop of Africa. (B,L,D)

DAY 5 : AMBOSELI / MT. KENYA

MT. KENYA SAFARI CLUB
Morning flight to Nairobi. Drive through Kenya’s scenic central highlands to the foot of snow-capped Mt. Kenya and the incomparable Mt. Kenya Safari Club, made famous by the conservation efforts of William Holden and Stephanie Powers. This is one of the most beautiful places in Kenya. The balance of the day is at leisure. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 : MT. KENYA / SAMBURU

LARSENS TENTED CAMP
Continue north into the semi-desert bush country of the northern frontier district, arriving at your camp in time for lunch. Here you meet the nomads of the desert: the Samburu tribe. Late this afternoon is your first game drive in the reserve to view the wildlife unique to this area of Kenya. (B,L,D)

DAY 7 : SAMBURU GAME RESERVE

LARSENS TENTED CAMP
Today rise with the sun to experience an early morning game drive. You see the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, elephant, warthog, gerenuk, oryx and, if you are lucky, the elusive leopard. After lunch there is time to rest during the midday heat before the late afternoon game drive. Optional camel ride with local Samburu tribesmen. (B,L,D)

DAY 8 : SAMBURU / MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

GOVERNOR’S CAMP
Morning flight from Nanyuki to Kenya’s most famous game reserve – The Masai Mara. This reserve is the northernmost extension of the vast Serengeti Plains. Your deluxe tented camp is shaded by a dense forest canopy and overlooks the game-filled plains. Game drives and bush walks with resident guides and naturalists reveal the wonders of the Mara, as do visits to Masai cultural villages and sundowners on the escarpment. You have three days to explore this fabulous reserve starting with the late afternoon game drive. (B,L,D)

DAY 9-10 : MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

GOVERNOR’S CAMP
The Masai Mara has the highest concentration of plains game in the country. You see elephant, giraffe, prides of lion, cheetah and thousands of impala, topi, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle. The Mara is the scene of the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra up from the Serengeti Plains in search of water and grasses – one of the great wildlife spectacles in the world. There are two game drives daily, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon. In the evening, linger on the verandah and discuss the day’s excitement with fellow guests. (B,L,D)

DAY 11 : MASAI MARA / NAIROBI / DEPART

NORFOLK HOTEL (DAYROOM)
After a final game drive, bid “Kwaheri” to the camp staff and fly to Nairobi. Transfer to the Norfolk Hotel (dayroom). This afternoon visit Karen Blixen’s home and Giraffe Center. Evening departure flight. (B)

DAY 12 : ARRIVE USA
