Mount Kilimanjaro is no easy task, no matter which route is taken. With climbers often managing 10 hours or more of hiking per day, the huts and rest areas that are found along the trek are always welcome. Encompassing basic comforts and snow-cap views, the Horombo Hut is a favorite for many hikers.
Located along the Marangu route, the Horombo Hut is visible to trekkers on the second or third day day of the hike, when fatigue has officially begun to set in. Found at 12,340 feet above sea level, most hikers will climb more than 3,000 feet in elevation to reach Horombo at the end of the day.
The route, which is also called the Coca Cola route, provides carbonated beverages of the most saccharine variety at Horombo. After being in the challenging heat for two days, the sugary treat is a great reward for any hiker.
At Horombo, the first sights of the Kibo peak begin to come into view. The snow-capped wonder provides all the more enticement for travelers, and makes the final goal all the more tangible.
