Pudding in South Africa becomes a popular (and adventurous) treat

A culinary adventure in Cape Town, South Africa, could be the perfect break from the week-long desert and mountain treks in the countryside.

Recently, Kari's Malva Pudding, a gourmet dessert, has been taking American's taste buds by storm and it's not too hard to see why.

It's not pudding in the traditional sense that most American's think of - it's a "dense, moist, rich cake with a caramelly flavor and a hint of apricots," according to a statement released by Malva Pudding.
Some of the best restaurants in Cape Town and Johannesburg have the dessert, which is named after its Dutch Afrikaans creator. The dish is usually made with eggs, butter, sugar, milk, flour, cream, apricot jam and a little splash of vinegar.

"Oprah Winfrey served it at the first Christmas dinner for her girls' academy in South Africa, and Nelson Mandela has said it's his favorite dessert," said Kari Mansfeld, the founder of the pudding company.
